Temba Bavuma is the captain of the South African national cricket team, an accomplished international cricketer and the founder of the Temba Bavuma Foundation. Widely recognised for his calm, values-driven leadership, he has become one of South Africa's most respected sporting figures and a leading voice on resilience, inclusion and youth empowerment.
Making his Test debut in 2014, Temba made history as the first Black African cricketer to score a Test century for South Africa. Since assuming the captaincy, he has led the Proteas through major international competitions, including the ICC World Test Championship, and has been recognised for his strategic leadership, composure under pressure and ability to unite and inspire a diverse team on the global stage.
Beyond cricket, Temba is deeply committed to creating opportunities for young people. Through the Temba Bavuma Foundation, which celebrates its 10-year anniversary in 2026, the focus is on expanding access to education and sport, while driving broader social impact through initiatives that promote dignity, opportunity and community upliftment. Guided by the belief that talent should never be limited by circumstance, the Foundation works to equip young people with the opportunities, support and confidence to realise their full potential.
Away from the cricket field, Temba is a passionate golfer and sees the game as more than a personal pursuit. Through the Foundation's Golf Day and his participation in corporate golf events, he has used golf as a platform to build meaningful relationships, convene leaders from across sectors and mobilise support for youth development initiatives.
